I connected with Martin after my first ever psychedelic journey, with Bufo/aka 5MEO-DMT, in Iceland, with a facilitator by the Name of Nyx (that interview is here on Martin’s podcast: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/entheogenic/episodes/2022-03-21T10_00_00-07_00. )
This was the most powerful experience I had, releasing years of suppressed anger, sadness, and misery. While the trip itself was brutal, the skills I had been cultivating through my mindfulness practice ABSOLUTELY helped me stay the course and be with this medicine for the entire session duration.
You see, with Nyx, it’s not one hit and done. It was one hit after another for approximately 8 hours. She also pairs the sessions with MDMA to reduce the chances of “freaking out,” and I can see why. While I took it (this was my first outing ever with any entheogen),I later realized I did not need it. The three cultivatable skills of concentration, sensory clarity, and the crown jewel of them all, EQUANIMITY, helped me stay with this immense overwhelm, profuse vomiting, and screaming/crying that seemed like it would never end.
I had no “ego death”. I had no bliss out. I did not meet gods or sense that I was anywhere special. What my body needed was an explosive purging, which it got. But if it were not for my cultivated mindfulness practice, I would have been running down the streets of Reykyavik, pulling my hair out and screaming.
Then, as I returned to earth, the integration task lay before me. There was so much to integrate, but I could do it precisely because of my mindfulness practice. And I’m still integrating to this day.
Those events in Iceland are still changing me for the better in regular consciousness, in everyday life… where it counts.
Is my life perfect? No. Is it better? 100%.
It can be for you, too. Don’t let your psychedelic experiences go to waste. Please don’t leave them on the mat. Bring them with you into the NOW, where it matters.
I can show you how.
